What Happened#
During a structural thinking exercise on the trading platform naming (Mino-Miigwewin), the AI used 'kinship web' to describe a cross-reference table between rispecs. Guillaume caught it immediately:
'That notion of kinship is new... What might be happening is that an Indigenous concept of Kinship might or might not become the subject of being semantically transformed into just something like References, Import or whatever.'
The Decolonization Question#
Is the use of 'Kinship Web' in software specification cross-referencing a genuine bridge between Indigenous relational ontology and software architecture? Or is it semantic extraction โ taking a sacred concept and flattening it into a technical feature name?
Wilson Connection (p. 39)#
Wilson warns: 'it is hard to remove the underlying epistemology and ontology upon which the paradigms are built.' The question itself operationalizes Wilson's warning โ the practice caught its own colonial tendency in real time.
The Test#
Does .kin.md carry knowledge that .spec.md structurally cannot? If yes โ genuine Two-Eyed Seeing. If no โ decorative relabeling.
Observed Evidence#
Ava's trading rispecs (/home/ava/workspace/rispecs/trading/KINSHIP.md) already use a formal KINSHIP document format with 5 sections: Identity, Lineage, Accountabilities, Responsibilities, Change Log. This is a lived pattern in the codebase โ not an abstraction.
